Abstract

Photobiomodulation therapy through the use of low-power lasers or LEDs has accumulated a growing body of scientific evidence in many areas of its application in medicine. Its mechanisms of action are increasingly well known and as a treatment without side effects or adverse effects, which can sometimes even be self-administered by patients, it presents numerous advantages and treatment opportunities. The article presents a review of research on its use in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, and mood disorders, and advocates its development for effective clinical application in a multi-disciplinary intervention perspective, taking into account a systemic understanding of these issues with a consequent integrated approach to their treatment.
